Jelly Roll Race Quilts

I set out to make Christmas themed quilts for my in-laws but Christmas passed and they were still not finished (still not done with the binding). I decided to whip up some sew and flip jelly roll quilts that wouldn't be so out of season. I did use the Three Dudes quilt block for one of them and just did stitch in the ditch. They all got delivered while there was still a little cool weather left. I resolve to start earlier this year.

Square Dance for Kiera

I loved this line of fabric the first time I saw it, Northcott's "Charlotte". I made this for my grand daughter when she's ready to graduate from the baby bed. I used one charm pack, one roll of 2 1/2" strips and two rolls of 1 1/2" strips for the background and inner border plus some yardage for the outer border and binding. I followed Jenny's tutorial for the Square in a Square block. The pattern on the MSQC website is called Square Dance. MSQC did the quilting. The backing is fabric that I bought at an estate sale way back when a baby girl was just wishful thinking. The little pillow case was adapted from Jenny's pillowcase tutorial. Easy peasy. My sister taught me how to do the flange binding. Very happy with the way it turned out.

Celebrate Your Life!

This was an "emergency" quilt for a friend who in the same week, lost his job and was told he had pancreatic cancer. A second opinion revealed no cancer! I call it "Celebrate Your Life!" The pattern is Ribbon Star by Missouri Star Quilt Co (free video online) and uses 2.5" strips.

Arizona Mining

A modern quilt using yummy sandscapes and Stonehenge fabrics. While making this quilt I learned that in Arizona, turquoise is a by product of the copper mining. I quilted it myself using two layers of batting - 80/20 with wool on top to make the stone sections puff out some. Love the way it provides such definition.
